Congratulations on your decision to get started on the exciting journey of a Work at Home Mom (aka WAHM).

Now that you've made the decision to get started here the top three things to consider:

1. How much income do you need to secure in order to make this dream a reality? Consider your short term goals - bare minimums that you need to accomplish in order to pursue your at-home career.
2. What are your Top Qualities? Consider what you ENJOY and have a PASSION for, what people most often compliment you on, hobbies or work experience... write all of these down!
3. How much time and money are you able to invest in this venture? (Yes, it is possible to start with a few bucks and a few hours!)

So now you know you want to build an income by joining the many WAHM's out there but how are you going to accomplish this?

There are many different business models to choose from:

• Home Based Business / Multi-Level Marketing : a method of building a business by selling or personal use of a product or service and building a team of members who do the same. • Affliate Marketing: a marketing practice where a company rewards those that refer products to one or more people. When those people purchase that product YOU will receive a percentage of the income. There are a LOT of examples of this and perhaps you are already using a product who provides this service. Take a look at the websites for the products you use today to see if they offer an affiliate marketing service. • Telecommuting: a work arrangement between employer and employee allowing for flexibility in working location and hours. In order to save money within their corporate budgets many companies are hiring their workforce with telecommuting specifically in mind. This allows the employer to save on equipment costs, building rent and even electrical costs by allowing employees to work from their home supplying their own computers, internet and telephone. So brush off that resume and start a job hunt to find YOUR next telecommuting opportunity.
• Self-Employment: If you have a talent or skill that others would pay for then consider doing that from your home. This can includes things like music lessions, pageant coaching, making and selling crafts, photography, graphics, web development ... the possibilities are endless. You can use any one method or a combination of these methods to build your income from home depending upon your financial goals, personal goals and interests.

So now you what you want to do to earn some extra money ... but how are you going to get there?

Since you would never head on a family vacation to a strange state without a map (or at least a GPS) wouldn't you also want a map (aka a business plan) as you get your new business started too?

Here are some tips to help you get started:

• Join an online community that have other women with similiar interests to discuss ideas and options for working at home.


• Consider what you will need to run your office from home - computer, internet, phone or fax lines, merchant or vendor accounts, tax forms, etc. Be sure to check out these products and resources for some free and inexpensive ideas!


• Learn the required skills for the position you desire. If you are in the network marketing industry or direct sales industry contact your home office. They probably have great training opportunities for new reps. In addition, you can check out companies like Networking Times. They provide team building and sales training that is company independent (meaning you can be in any company and still put the training to good use!). If you are teleworking or self employed, search the web for training opportunities that fall within your field to keep your skills on the cutting edge.

It will be important to have an on-going support system. Seek out those that are successful and ask them to mentor you. Having a mentor will help you be accountable, provide a "go to" person for questions or advice, and have someone who will inspire you to succeed.

If you are a network marketer or direct seller, ask your leader to become your mentor so that you are getting advice with the perspective of your company in mind.

If you are a telecommuter or are self employed, find someone in the same field as you a few towns or counties away. Make sure you choose someone who is already successful in your field and ask them for the advice they would give a "newbie". Offer to take them out for lunch so that you can "pick their brain" and gather ideas on where to start.
